Hypoallergenic Textiles
Tessitura Florida has always been especially concerned with the environment and human health. After obtaining the AIAB Certification in 2005 for the certification of biological textiles, it founded, together with other supply chain companies, a consortium for research and development called “VIS Vestire in Salute” in order to implement innovative research projects in the textile sector.
In 2007 with these companies and in co-operation with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia it completed a research and development project on HYPOALLERGENIC fabrics and was awarded a “Declaration of Hypoallergenicity”.
Tessitura Florida will carry on producing and marketing such fabrics via the Consortium.

Satisfying the demand for anallergic fabrics
According to public data, about 20% of the European population suffers from contact sensibilisation and these data match with those stated in North American countries.
The problem of contact allergies caused by textile products directly concerns about 700,000 people in Italy only.
Talking about contact allergens, hospital department sources reveal that about 6.7% of the cases present contact allergies caused by fabric dyes and/or additives.
The growing number of contact dermatitis is a problem of major importance involving both health-care and socio-psychological aspects.
In particular, every year the Allergology Department of Modena admits about 1,400 people affected by suspect contact dermatitis. About 60% is represented by women. With regards to age distribution, about 13% are children, 33% are patients over 50 and 10% are patients aged 15-25 years.
Aim the project
The aim of this project, that involves sundry companies in the province of Modena and particularly in the Carpi area, is the effort of giving a wholesome and complex answer to the growing request for garments that would not cause allergic dermatitis. These types of dermatitis can be caused by dangerous chemical residues that can -set free by the contact between garments and skin.
These residues can come up in different stages of the production process: fertilizers or pesticides widely used for cotton growing, or auxiliary elements, triggers and heavy metals found in products used in the phases of fabrics ennobling.
Nowadays it is quite difficult for dermatologists to suggest patients with such problems what highly tolerable textile products they can use, above all when such products are also required to meet the taste of a fashion-conscious public.
This project means to analyze the abovementioned problems with regards to different yarns and fabrics: wool and cotton
Main problems faced:
In order to satisfy this demand, a certified supplied chain must be established which can guarantee, i.e. certify, the product during all the stages of production, carrying out original tests and control systems.
The characteristics of all the materials must be checked, not only with paper documents, like technical sheets, but also through instrumental detection and testing on people and patients.
The big advantage offered by the future ATI group of companies is indeed the capability of controlling the product working cycle during the whole chain working process: yarn-fabric-dyeing and finishing.
The production chain established by the ATI companies will have to control raw materials, auxiliary products, dyes.
Allergenicity tests on the population
The project will refer to the dermatology department at Modena University. Technical and scientific co-ordination of tests will be entrusted to the group co-ordinated by Prof. Stefania Seidenari, and will deal with experimental testing on the pure substances used to prepare the yarn/fabric/garments.
